Legal notice, licences & takedown

Plain-language summary. tvlogo.monster is a free, non-profit, non-commercial community project. We are not affiliated with any broadcaster. Logos belong to their owners; we show them only so people can identify channels, and we remove any logo on request. Our code is MIT-licensed and our metadata is CC BY 4.0, but the logo images themselves are not licensed by us. This page is not legal advice.

1. Who we are and what this is

tvlogo.monster (“the project”, “we”) is a volunteer-run, non-profit and non-commercial community project and a sister project of epg.monster. It maintains a database that maps TV channel identifiers (iptv-org tvg-ids, epg.monster channel ids, Canadian call signs and channel names) to channel logos, and offers a free read-only website and API. We do not sell anything, run no advertising and do not charge for access.

2. No affiliation or endorsement

The project is independent. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by any broadcaster, network, station group, streaming service, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC), Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED), the iptv-org project, epg.monster’s data sources, or any other organisation whose names or logos appear on this site. Mentioning a name or showing a logo does not imply any relationship with its owner.

3. Trademarks and logos

Channel names and logos are trademarks and/or copyrighted works of their respective owners. We claim no ownership of any logo. Logos are shown and linked solely to identify the channel they belong to (nominative / referential use), for example so that a TV guide or IPTV player can display the correct logo next to a channel the user already receives. They are not used to suggest sponsorship or endorsement, and they are not modified beyond technical normalisation (resizing, padding onto a transparent square canvas and lossless PNG encoding).

If you reuse a logo you obtain through this site, you are responsible for making sure your use is lawful where you are. The project’s licences below do not grant you any rights in the logos.

4. Provided as-is, no warranty

The website, API, data and images are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose, availability and non-infringement. Logos and mappings are gathered automatically from public sources and may be wrong, outdated or missing. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the project and its contributors are not liable for any damages arising from the use of, or inability to use, the service. The API may be rate-limited, changed or discontinued at any time.

5. Takedown policy

If you own (or are authorised to act for the owner of) a logo or other content on this site and want it removed or corrected, email takedown@tvlogo.monster with:

  1. the logo URL(s) (for example https://i.tvlogo.monster/Ab3x9.png) or the channel name / id;
  2. who you are and your relationship to the rights holder;
  3. what you would like us to do (remove, replace with an official version, correct the mapping).

We aim to acknowledge requests within 3 business days and to act on valid requests within 7 days; obviously valid requests from a rights holder are normally handled faster. Removed images are taken offline and their URLs answer 410 Gone; the removal and its reason are recorded. We do not require a formal legal notice, and we will not argue about our right to keep a logo: if the owner asks, it comes down.

Why CC BY 4.0 for the metadata?

We chose CC BY 4.0 rather than ODbL because the data is meant to be embedded in IPTV apps, playlists and guides, where ODbL’s share-alike and database-disclosure duties would be a burden on small projects. CC BY only asks for attribution, which also lets us honour the attribution requirement of the Open Government Licence – Canada. It is compatible with our inputs: iptv-org’s database is released under The Unlicense (public domain dedication) and Wikidata is CC0, both of which allow relicensing under CC BY; Natural Earth is public domain. Guide (XMLTV) sources that state no licence are used only to discover logo URLs and match channels; we do not republish their programme data.

9. Notice in API responses

Every API response carries an X-Trademark-Notice header and a Link: <https://search.tvlogo.monster/legal>; rel="license" header, and lookup results include trademark_note and data_licence fields, so the notice travels with the data.
